Shadow is an investigative drama set in the real world. It was filmed on location all across London and brings to life some of the city's more hidden and sometimes bizarre corners. The film focuses on a long time veteran of the Metropolitan Police Force, his troubled teenage daughter and a mysterious young man who has recently moved into their building following a prison sentence. When they discover that there is more than meets the eye with their new neighbor, father and daughter team up to investigate what is happening in this place where people go in but never come out. The film was created and written by the production team behind the ground-breaking serial drama, "Stiff". The show runs simultaneously on Sky Living and is viewed by over 1 million customers every week. The film is produced by Fortitude Films and Cloudburst Films. It was produced by Jamie Miller, Simon Foster and Robyn Kershaw at Fortitude Films with Ben Woodward as executive producer at Cloudburst Films. The filming of "Shadow" took place in London's East End. "Shadow" had its premiere at the Edinburgh International Film Festival 2014 on July 14 2014 where it won a post-production award for its editing and demonstrated exceptional visual storytelling skills. The film has since had a number of top UK festival showings including the BFI London Film Festival, the BFI London Film Festival's Composer's themed strand, 'Taste', at which it was nominated for Best Feature, Best Editing and Best Original Score. The film was released in cinemas across the UK on 20 August 2014. For the week ending 10 August 2014 "Shadow" opened in UK cinemas at number one in its category with weekly gross of £2,013,870 in 455 venues. The post-weekend gross amounted to £800,000 in 54 venues over the Monday-to-Sunday period ending August 19. It has since expanded to 662 cinemas, across the UK and Ireland. The film was released on DVD and Blu-ray on 15 November 2014. "Shadow" has a score of 67% based on 19 reviews from critics on the review aggregate website Rotten Tomatoes. The site's critical consensus reads: "Though it may not fully achieve the shadows at its center, "Shadow" is a well-acted character study that works as well for fans of gritty police procedurals as it does for those unfamiliar with the genre." Metacritic reports an average score of 40 out of 100 from six reviews indicating mixed or average reviews. "Shadow" is a 2014 winner of a U.S. Music License Production Award for Harmony, The World’s Largest Music License Law Firm. Movies critic Jacqui Moir considers "Shadow" to be a 'masterpiece', saying that it is 'a brilliant blend of genre tropes and keen insights into the human condition as portrayed by the remarkable acting talent on display here.'
